New Accessible Web Design & Compliance Certificate

Harper College's new Accessible Web Design & Compliance Certificate was just approved by the State of Illinois. There is an increased focus in the technology industry and in society on accessibility. Information technology (including web sites) is expected to provide accommodations in order to be accessible for all individuals. The certificate was added to address learning needs generated by the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (http://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=32765).


The new Accessible Web Design & Compliance Certificate can help prepare you for this growing career path. This six-credit-hour certificate requires two courses: WEB 150 Web Development I and WEB 210 Web Accessibility & Usability. Outstanding e-Learning Faculty Award

The Instructional Technology Council (ITC) recently announced the recipients of their 2008 Awards for Excellence.

Harper College Associate Professor Terry Morris was named the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding e-Learning Faculty Award for Excellence.

The ITC is a national organization that promotes effective use of technology to enhance distance learning. Member institutions may nominate an exemplary faculty member for this national award. The nominations are reviewed and the recipient is chosen by a panel of judges including ITC board members, past awards winners and other ITC members.

Northcentral University, where Terry is a doctoral student, issued a congratulatory press release.

Next Version of HTML in the Works

The Web Developer Foundations blog describes a new W3C HTML Working Group that was formed earlier this year to draft the next version of HTML (and XHTML). Well, now it's official -- the next version of (X)HTML will be called HTML 5.

Computer Security Training Center

“CSTC will enable government, private and non-profit organizations to receive training in current IT and cyber security methods in preparation for national certification in these critical areas,” said Jennifer Mathes, Dean of Business and Social Science at Harper College.

“The goal of the Center is to work with both the public and private sector to identify computer security training needs and offer credit and non-credit training programs for Illinois workers that prepare them for internships and professional job placement opportunities.”

Harper College has designed the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Computers in Business with a specialization in Network Security, a security curriculum that covers six industry certifications, to prepare students and IT professionals for careers in network security and computer forensics.  A Network Security Certificate is also available.

Certification programs offered include Security+, Hardening the Infrastructure (HTI), Network Defense and Countermeasures (NDC), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS), and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). 

CSTC will also offer an AAS and corresponding certificate program in Computer Forensics and Security.
